Becoming a Professional CTFer: Insights from TCTF2019 Open Class Universities

In the vibrant city of Wuhan, a new journey began for students interested in cybersecurity and capture the flag (CTF) events. The TCTF2019 open class universities kicked off with a warm welcome from Li Bing Hui, the National Cyber Security Academy Youth League secretary of Wuhan University. As the crowd gathered, the anticipation was palpable.

Setting the Stage for CTF Success

A Bear Chang, the Wuhan University CTF clan chief, took the stage to introduce students to the basic structure of CTF events. With his extensive experience as a CTF clan member, he shared his insights on how to become a professional CTFer. A Bear Chang’s presentation highlighted the importance of CTF games in changing and growing, and encouraged interested students to dare to try network security.

Expert Insights from Tencent Security

Tencent security experts also joined the event, bringing with them a wealth of knowledge and experience. Du Zheng Tao, a security expert from Tencent Secure Cloud Ding Lab, debuted as the Web topic topic person for TCTF 2019. In addition to his identity as a security expert, Du Zheng Tao has a hidden talent for CTF games.

Science Questions and Cloud Security

As the questions chief, Du Zheng Tao explained the science behind CTF games in simple terms, focusing on planning and problem-solving. He encouraged students to come up with multiple solutions to problems and to take advantage of the event’s opportunities. Joining Tencent Security Team

The students in attendance were eager to join the Tencent security team, and the person responsible for Tencent CSIG campus students introduced the development and function orientation of Tencent CSIG. The added method for joining Tencent CSIG was also pointed out, providing a clear direction for interested students.

Next Stop: Guangzhou

The TCTF open class universities will continue in Guangzhou, with the next session scheduled for May 14. The main content of the Guangzhou University session includes CTF development, mathematics and CTF, entry-level cryptography, and more. The event is organized by Guangzhou University, Tencent security, and the Institute of Advanced Technology, with sponsorship from Guangzhou University’s “Bin-Xing Fang class”.
